Jane Lewis – Volunteer Support Worker
After spending 4 years at home with my 3 young children (the hardest job in the world, but definitely the most rewarding!) I joined Duffryn Community Link in January 2010 as part-time Volunteer Support Worker.
As Volunteer Support Worker I make contact with and provide guidance, support and encouragement to any individual wishing to volunteer or gain work experience through Duffryn Community Link and the community partners we work with. I am currently supporting learners undertaking an Employability Skills course which is funded in partnership with Comic Relief and Newport City Council.
Prior to having a family I worked for 17 years doing lots of different jobs in and with front line services in Local Government, and more recently my work focused on housing and community empowerment around the UK.
Whilst I was a ‘stay at home mum’ I kept busy by undertaking a number of different courses, mainly at the Forest Children’s Centre.
I also undertake voluntary work myself - as a Parent Governor of Duffryn Infants School and the Chair of Duffryn Infants Parents Teachers Association.
